Denny and Ken went up and finished the job off after the bits of snow (and wind) we received this week. Sunday afternoon and again Sunday evening the groomers groomed in the new falling snow.  Classic tracks were not set, but the entire trail system was groomed wide for skating.  Monday morning another ungroomed 2-3" fell on the trail.  Conditions are good and all the old ice is now covered.

The service road was groomed by the Sandia Peak snowcat (for skating). Fredrik Landsted had set classic tracks on the service road (on each side) and was grooming the UNM loop when I left the area early this afternoon. The loop is still pretty soft but ski it anyway. Tracks looked like hard wax would still work despite the warm temps lately. Probably a thin coat of blue klister wouldn't hurt.

Service road groomed by alpine snowcat. Good skating except a little rough from rock quarry to gate due to foot traffic. Did a little classic today on the service road and some of the lower trails above the road as did Rich Besser. Decided to update because today I worked on improving the UNM loop through the woods mostly the meadow section which needed a lot of work; so I shoveled snow over a significant part of that section in an attempt to enable Fredrik (UNM ski coach) to groom that loop on Friday. The skate lane was ground up and re-combed last night. Conditions are pretty challenging up there for groomers right now, and it was felt best to just leave the classic tracks as is. Thanks to the groomers this weekend who did an amazing job with very little snow. I skied the course Saturday mid day. You need to walk much of the initial big hill and first 50 meters or so of the upper ski trail. After that it is surprisingly good. The skating lanes of the lower loop trail have been smoothed and bladed this evening. The classic track is still in pretty fair shape from Ken's grooming last Sunday.The upper loop is still in great shape and should hold up well for skating and classic as long as temperatures remain normal, which is the current forecast.Be warned, there are some rocky spots in the 1st kilometer or so, getting

Dave regroomed the entire network for skating and classic.... I skiied it yesterday afternoon and it is quite good, cool conditions, blue kick wax is what I used. That steep little descent right at Point "A" at the top of the front hill is rocky now and best walked if you love your skiis! Hey it's only 25 feet of walking.... :o)

Sandia Peak received about 1-2 inches new snow from the quick moving storm that came through Monday, January 10. The tram service road had been regroomed over the weekend by Sandia Peak ski area.I skied classic Monday afternoon but stayed off the service road for the most part since it was so cold with a 15-30 mph wind.Ron

Monday, January 3, 2011Sandia Peak received about 8" new snow from last week's storm and Rich Besser reports the tram service roadhas been groomed (for skating) by the snowcat and looks good. The switchback trail and the upper section of the UNM trail are 'packed' from skiers and snowshoers, need fairly wide pole baskets for good poling.Ron

Here is Denny's report:"Ken and I groomed last night. We focused on widening and flattening. I ran Kermit with the blades to widen the high side - Ken ran Viking with the 4 ft and teeth down. Then he picked up the 6 ft and I ran the 4ft to set track. The edges, especially in the meadow and still soft (you will see where I fell off the trail a few times). the track is as far over as possible
